The Luahoana Heroes Project will culminate in a book, centering essays written by Native Hawaiian students about their heroes, whether they be historical, famous, or family. A mixture of well-established and up-and-coming artists will illustrate the heroic subjects in creative portraits.

My work with Kamehameha Publishing's Luahoana Project portraits spans three years, in a period of massive change and growth in my art. The project was the beginning of my proffessional artistic journey, and chronicles my personal growth in a way I will be forever grateful for.
Eddie Aikau
Beginning with a family photo, I thumbnailed the final idea. Then I did several studies of Yogi's face to get comfortable with depicting her.
I created a first draft testing out the composition, and finally created a final portrait.
